Women in Securities Finance to celebrate European chapter launch

The Women in Securities Finance industry group's first European chapter has announced the official launch of the London Chapter.

The new arm, which is headed by J.P. Morgan’s Harpreet Bains and BNY Mellon’s Ina Budh-Raja, is to hold a special launch function on 19 March in Canary Wharf hosted by BNY Mellon.

The event will include keynote speakers from the Bank of England, Sumita Ghosh of Market Intelligence and Jonathan Pyzer from the Sterling Markets Division, alongside Dan Watkins, head of markets, clearing and collateral at BNY Mellon.

In announcing the lineup of speakers, Budh-Raja, director of product and strategy for securities finance, says: “I'm hoping to see many of you at the launch of the London Chapter of Women in Securities Finance. Thank you to our speakers Sumita Ghosh and Jonathan Pyzer from Bank of England for sharing their focus on diversity as best practice and thank you to Dan Watkins from BNY Mellon for sponsoring and hosting the event.”

The independent industry women’s group was formed in early 2018 in the US by Elaine Benfield who serves as senior counsel at Vanguard, Arianne Collette, global head of strategic client engagement at Morgan Stanley, and Jill Rathgeber director at BNY Mellon, who act as joint chairs.

It describes itself as an independent industry women’s group that aims to foster connections in the securities finance industry regardless of roles.

The group’s guiding principles are to encourage and empower women in securities finance to connect professionally, collaborate and share insights.

News of the London launch party comes shortly after it was revealed that the group was also planning the addition of a philanthropic arm to its activities.
