S&P Global Market Intelligence reveals Novozymes and Petrofac as top shorted stocks

S&P Global Market Intelligence has released the top 10 highest shorted equities across the UK and Europe with a minimum market capitalisation of US$10 billion.

Calculated from the firm’s securities finance dataset, S&P Global Market Intelligence data reveals Europe's top shorted stock (excluding the UK) was Novozymes A/S (NZYM B).

The Denmark-based global biotechnology company boasts 36.30 million shares borrowed, with 15.98 per cent of its shares outstanding (SI Outstanding) being out on loan.

The remaining top five shorted stocks for Europe included the German pharmaceutical supplier Sartorius Prf (SRT3) with 3.94 million shares borrowed and 11.53 per cent SI outstanding being on loan.

This was followed by Carrefour Sa (CA, 64.08 million shares borrowed, 8.91 per cent SI Outstanding), Eurofins Scientific Se (ERF, 15.93 million shares borrowed, 8.28 per cent SI Outstanding), and Koninklijke Philips Nv (PHIA, 62.24 million shares borrowed, 6.65 per cent SI Outstanding).

For the UK, energy service provider Petrofac (PFC) was the top shorted stock with 96.20 million shares borrowed and 18.43 per cent of SI Outstanding.

The top five shorted stocks for the UK also included retailer Asos Plc (ASC) with 16.05 million shares borrowed and 13.46 per cent SI Outstanding.

This was followed by Abrdn Plc (ABDN, 225.57 shares borrowed, 12.08 per cent SI Outstanding), Boohoo Group Plc (BOO, 147.06 million shares borrowed, 11.59 per cent SI Outstanding) and Kingfisher Plc (KGF, 198.50 million shares borrowed, 10.51 per cent SI Outstanding).
